Position Purpose: The Surgical Scheduling Coordinator arranges the logistics of patient surgeries and procedures. Serves as a liaison between patients and medical staff/providers throughout the entire process, including pre-operative testing, insurance authorizations, the procedure, and follow-up appointments. Communicates with patients and their families to ensure they are well informed and prepared. Also handles clerical/administrative tasks such as answering emails, in-basket messages, phone calls, and verifying patient medical records.

Description: The Surgical Scheduling Coordinator arranges the logistics of patient surgeries and procedures. Serves as a liaison between patients and medical staff/providers throughout the entire process, including pre-operative testing, insurance authorizations, the procedure, and follow-up appointments. Communicates with patients and their families to ensure they are well informed and prepared. Also handles clerical/administrative tasks such as answering emails, in-basket messages, phone calls, and verifying patient medical records.

What You Will Do:

1. Schedules all inpatient, outpatient, and office admissions, ensuring times are scheduled and available. Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, and families.
2. Coordinates with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to schedule and enter procedure requests, ensuring patients complete all required pre-op testing such as labs and imaging.
3. Obtains complex prior authorizations for procedures, testing, and medications, requiring knowledge of carrier policies and procedures. Continuous education is necessary to stay current.
4. Works closely with insurance representatives to secure approvals, providing necessary medical documentation to support medical necessity.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• At least three (3) years of experience scheduling specialty procedures
