The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Surgery Scheduler 2 in the Department of Orthopedics with a hire date of June 2024. The Surgery Scheduler 1 assists with the coordination and scheduling of surgical procedures and serves as liaison between physicians, medical staff, and other departments to ensure smooth scheduling operations. Moreover, the Surgery Scheduler works directly with patients and strives to provide an excellent healthcare experience. The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024. Core job functions include scheduling surgical appointments and monitoring cancellations, completing necessary paperwork prior to pre-op appointments, obtaining referrals and authorizations, following up with appropriate departments to ensure all pre-op results are available prior to procedures, informing patients about visit activities and financial responsibilities, and adhering to University policies. Department specific functions include receiving surgery date requests, obtaining pertinent scheduling information, scheduling patients in the Operating Room block, contacting patients with surgery details, managing lab work orders and authorizations, coordinating with pre-op nurses, updating OR logs, verifying insurance benefits and patient financial responsibilities, scheduling pre-op and post-op appointments, coding procedures and diagnoses, contacting insurance for authorizations, correcting patient registration and insurance information, reminding patients of surgery details, submitting surgical data to billing, and providing patient contact information for estimates. Knowledge, skills, and attitudes required include effective communication, attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, ability to work independently or collaboratively, and proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office.
